"The monocoques are getting better and better"
Bobingen, November 28, 2022 - It's been ten years Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme GmbH Sponsor of municHMotorsport eV and Starkstrom Augsburg eV has also been supported for five years. However, the company not only provides the two successful Formula Student teams with free special tools for processing fiber composite materials and polyurethane blocks. Above all, the teams benefit from the production capacities in the tool manufacturer's technology center and from its know-how in processing materials that are difficult to machine.
“municHMotorsport has relied on monocoque chassis since 2007. Since 2012, we have been bringing the ureol blocks for the molds and CFRP blanks for processing Hufschmied to Bobingen. That's a huge advantage. Our teams have learned a lot over the years - for example in production-friendly design. Since we have our own machining center for smaller parts, we also know the material-specific tools Hufschmied I really appreciate it,” says Vincent Jellbauer, chassis team leader at municHMotorsport eV
A good relationship, which is also shown
The Munich Formula Student team is happy to have the help of the industry-recognized specialists for CFRP machining and is proud to serve as a reference: an older combustion racing car belonging to the team is parked in the company foyer Hufschmied as an exhibit. Current cars from the Munich and Augsburg teams were also presented at the Technology Day Hufschmied company anniversary last year.
Supported for five years Hufschmied Kitty Horn, mechanical engineering student at Starkstrom Augsburg eV, project leader EV in the 20/21 season and before that a member of the chassis team, says: “What always impresses me is how uncomplicated, fast and individual we are Hufschmied supported.” This does not only apply to the processing of the monocoque. "The spring-damper system we developed, including the deflection system, is a mechanism that was almost entirely milled from CFRP - with a level of precision that we can't do without Hufschmied probably wouldn't have been able to do that."
The two teams exchange information regularly and can not only look forward to successful sponsorship partnerships, but also to successes in the Formula Student competitions. The Augsburg-based company has repeatedly taken top positions in autonomous driving, most recently taking first place in this area at Formula Student Germany, and the Munich-based company was able to take second place in the Endurance category last year, for example.
