Write a really good application: So it works
Dear applicant,
my name is Christel Hufschmied and I am responsible for human resources at Hufschmied. Since I am also the contact person for most questions about training, I have already read many applications from trainees. Here I would like to give you a little help and briefly explain what matters to us in an application and how to avoid common mistakes.
1. What belongs in the application?
Whether you apply by mail or by e-mail – the following documents must be included in a complete application:
– Cover letter
– Curriculum vitae
– School leaving certificate (for an apprenticeship the last three certificates)
– Employment references
I would recommend you to apply digitally with us. In terms of content, however, an application by e-mail is no different from an application by mail. Simply attach all documents to your online application as a scan or PDF that you would also provide to us in paper form. It is only important to pay attention to the correct file sizes and not to send us photos or scans in a huge resolution. You should also consider which documents are relevant for the
application. You should leave out useless information such as primary school reports, a scan of your identity card or driving license – unless the employer explicitly requests these documents.
2. the cover letter
The cover letter is the core of a good application. Here you have the opportunity to “sell” yourself well and explain why exactly you are the right person for a training position at Hufschmied. There are many templates for cover letters, especially online. I would like to recommend that you do not simply copy them, however, because you will certainly make the best impression with an individual cover letter. So it’s better to avoid the standard phrases and explain your motivation. Explain how you imagine working at Hufschmied and what makes you particularly qualified. Show us that you have taken a closer look at the company Hufschmied. On our website you will find a lot of information about our company, new products and events. Maybe there is even something that connects you with Hufschmied. However, please make sure that your cover letter is not too long. It should fit on one page, because often the number of applicants is high and the time of your contact person in the company is short.
3. the resume
Also for the resume can be found online numerous templates. Clarity is the most important thing here. When looking at your Vita
sollte a personnel manager or a personnel manager quickly get an overview of you as a person and your experience. Therefore, do not mix school, internships, work experience and projects. If you categorize the individual points neatly and stick to the layout of an American-style tabular resume, you will be on the safe side. Whether you want to start with the most recent events or proceed chronologically is up to you. An application photo is not obligatory, but it can give your application a personal touch and arouse sympathy. If you want to add a picture to your resume, it should definitely be a serious photo of high quality.
4. how the digital application works
Digital applications by e-mail are the most widespread type of application today and offer many advantages. Not
zuletzt you save time and resources with an online application. But which file format is best suited?
If possible, you should send only one PDF file at the end. This gives the person responsible a
structured and complete overview. He only has to open one file, has all the documents in front of him, and there is no danger of
a single attachment being overlooked. If you send against it five different files, possibly five different
programs are needed, which in the worst case are not all available. That w re therefore not a good idea. With a PDF file you are also on the safe side as far as the layout is concerned, and do not run the risk that a certain font is not available at the recipient or that formatting is displayed incorrectly. Programs that make it very easy to create PDFs can be found online. When you have collected all the application documents and summarized them as a PDF, simply send a short e-mail to ten.d1679982197eimhc1679982197sfuh@1679982197ereir1679982197rak1679982197. The e-mail is, so to speak, the envelope of your application. The text in the e-mail does not have to be long, because all the important information is in your cover letter. All that is missing is a meaningful subject for the e-mail – preferably just the word application and the job title. Another important point is your e-mail address: It should consist of a reasonable name and be from a reputable provider.
5. just stay authentic
In your application you show yourself from your best side – that’s clear. However, you should not pretend. That brings nothing and comes in the interview or at the latest with the test work anyway to the light. Then it can be counted negatively. It is also important for you to be appreciated as the person you are. After all, you spend a large part of your life with your colleagues at work. Being open and authentic from the outset makes it easier to work together as a team and creates a pleasant working atmosphere.
6. let parents or friends read your application
Besonders who wants to send many applications at once, makes quite once a mistake. It is therefore best to have someone proofread your application before you send it. A second pair of eyes usually sees more. And if you do make a typo, that’s no reason for rejection. But you should be especially concentrated when it comes to the names of contact persons. Misspelled first and last names, incorrect spelling or a wrong form of address – this can sometimes be embarrassing and also reduce your chances of getting a training position. In addition, the application should be complete in any case. What exactly is required can be found in the job posting.
7. the effort is worth it
In school, unfortunately, you do not always learn how best to apply. But if you follow all these tips, it will certainly work out with a good application. Finally, I would like to give you this tip along the way: You can immediately tell when someone has put effort into an application. So just pay attention to an appealing layout, avoid typos, think about an appealing cover letter and take a close look at your application before you send it off. I look forward to your application and wish you good luck!
