Burr-free milling of pure aluminum and soft aluminum alloys
Milling cutters and drills with different cutting edge geometries and coatings are suitable for machining aluminum alloys. Pure aluminum can be optimally processed with the single-edged tools from the Sharp line. For machining soft aluminum alloys, we recommend using tools from the Universal or Sharp Line. The quality of the cut surface and the absence of burrs are usually important here. The cutting edge geometries in the Sharp Line and the Universal Line from Hufschmied offer a long service life with the highest surface quality without the formation of burrs.
Milling medium-hard aluminum alloys at high feed rates
For machining medium-hard aluminum materials, we recommend using our Proto-Line tools with two or three cutting edges. These tools have polished edges and coatings that prevent built-up edges. This means that they offer optimum removal performance thanks to high feed speeds with high infeeds and enormous service lives. These tools can also be supplied with internal coolant supply on request.
Efficient milling of hard aluminum alloys
Hufschmied Thanks to a PVD coating or a nanocrystalline diamond layer DIP®, tools can be adapted to the respective requirement profile. This ensures optimum cost efficiency when milling these aluminum alloys. The specially developed HC 452 and HC453 full radius cutters and the HC 402 and HC403 torus cutters are suitable for machining these materials at particularly high speeds. The HC403BD «Wolverine» torus milling cutter was specially developed for trochioidal applications, which, with a high infeed depth and infeed width, deliver surfaces at the finishing milling level.
Drilling aluminum using SHADOW-Drill AD401
For drilling medium-hard and hard aluminum alloys at high feed rates, the SHADOW drill tools were developed as 2-edged drills from Hufschmied developed. A drill that "drills faster than its shadow" is only possible with a special thinning geometry that massively reduces the forces that occur and also does not provoke any burr formation when exiting. Thread milling and drilling-thread milling
The HC403GF « Threagster » thread mills and the Threagster AD402GF drill thread mills are designed to produce threads up to 3xD. Hufschmied supplies these tools as standard for thread sizes from M2. For deep threads Hufschmied the single-edged 110GF tools for thread depths up to 10xD.

High-performance welding pins for modern friction stir welding of lightweight materials. Absolute tightness when joining flat aluminum or aluminum alloys is in high demand in sectors such as vehicle construction, aerospace, rail transport construction, shipbuilding and medical technology. But also in e-mobility and in electrical engineering, more and more components are being joined using FSW. Thanks to the material-specific know-how Hufschmied unique FSW pins for series use made of VHM and correspondingly developed PVD coatings, which means that these pins allow up to 100% more feed while at the same time 60% more service life.
