Hufschmied Zerspanungssysteme for model making

Design studios and development departments in industry are the dream factories in which a piece of the future is created day by day. Hufschmied supports industrial designers and engineers in reviewing their design and functional concepts. Whether industrial model, prototype, trade fair model, automotive or functional model: there are specialized tools from for all processes and materials Hufschmied. For models of first-class quality, and usually much shorter machining processes. Our BlockBuster and ClayStar® series are more than tools: They are a holistic process that consistently follows the idea: from the idea to the model in the shortest possible time. This is how we accelerate innovation cycles and quickly make dreams tangible for our customers.

Various materials are used in industrial master model making. In addition to tried-and-tested aluminum, engineers are increasingly using block materials to create master models.

Hufschmied BlockBuster – Efficient machining of panel materials

With the BlockBuster tool family Hufschmied Specialized tools have been developed that are characterized by low cutting pressure and reduced heat generation. Both favor a very cost-effective machining of all panel materials in model making. Roughing and finishing are done with one and the same tool in one operation without changing tools. The BlockBuster can be supplied with large diameters of up to 25 mm and lengths of up to 300 mm for processing plastic block material.

Block material of various densities is used as the material for model building. The dimensionally stable material offers all possibilities when building master models, design, styling and cubing models as well as various moulds, foundry tools, core boxes and gauges.

Low cutting forces are required to machine the material in order to mill even complex 3D structures and thin-walled webs on the workpiece. The processing is demanding, the molds sometimes have very deep cavities from which a lot of material has to be removed. One of the biggest challenges for the industry is increasing productivity and reducing the machine hours per component - of course with the highest quality standards. This also increases the demands on the tool used, very narrow tolerances must be guaranteed here.

With conventional tools you have to program up to 7 steps to be able to produce a complex shape. And this also requires different tools for roughing, finishing and residual material processing. With the new BlockBuster, on the other hand, you only need one tool.

Processing block materials for model construction

There are various block materials for the production of master models. Ureol® is a particularly popular material. Engineers in mold and fixture construction also rely on the material. In particular, the good machinability with low dust generation and the lack of distortion of the workpiece surface make the material interesting for model making. Repairing or reworking faulty areas as well as gluing different blocks is possible without any problems.

High-performance tools for the best perfect results in model building - with almost any material.

For best results when milling Ureol hat Hufschmied developed the Proto-Line with torus milling cutters and full-radius milling cutters in the high-performance tools product area.

Machining aluminum in prototype and model construction

Also for the high demands of aluminum processing in prototype and model construction Hufschmied specialized process optimization tools.
