Why Hufschmied?

For 25 years, Hufschmied has been synonymous with extremely efficient tools for
highly productive processes. Since the dental industry has advanced from a
manual craft to an industrialised CAD/CAM production process, the manufacturing of
crowns, bridges or abutments calls for radius cutters that are tailored to the
individual requirements of the material, machine and, not least, the operator. For
each material, be it cobalt-chrome (CoCr) or NEM, zircon, titanium, PMMA, PEEK
or nanocomposites, we develop and manufacture the perfect cutter geometry,
choose a suitable raw material and the most efficient coating and combine it to create
an entire tool system for that particular dental milling machine.

PMMA / wax - cutting and machining

PMMA and wax are used in the dental industry for the manufacturing of provisional
restorations and occlusal splints.

Why Hufschmied?

With our specific Z1 tool geometry for the processing of PMMA or wax, smearing or
the formation of burrs are prevented. By keeping the machining temperature low,
plastics are cut and separated cleanly. Even with narrow contours, a very smooth
surface of the workpiece can be achieved.

Our specific Z1 tool geometry for the processing of PEEK prevents smearing or the
formation of burrs. In particular, the formation of fibre burrs at exit points is avoided.
By keeping the machining temperature low, the material is cut and separated cleanly,
producing very smooth surfaces even with narrow contours.

Why Hufschmied?

3D-machining of nanocomposites requires cutter geometries that are suitable for the
machining of the plastics matrix whilst retaining a sufficiently high abrasion resistance
needed for fibre-reinforced ceramics. With the ALX-coating of the Z1 cutter
geometry, we combine the best characteristics for the machining of plastics with the
longevity of an ALX-coating.

Titanium - cutting and machining

Titanium is used in dental technology for crowns, bridges, superstructures and
implants. The reason lies in the specific characteristics of titanium - high corrosion
resistance, biocompatability and biofunctionality.

Why Hufschmied?

The special cutter geometry of radius cutter HC720DT and torus cutter HC910DT,
respectively, ensures that heat generated by machining is dissipated through the
chips.
A highly polished chip space guarantees an extremely high chip flow speed and thus
abrasive titanium chips are removed from the impact zone of the cutting tool.
This brings about a high service life combined with perfect surface qualities on
crowns, bridges or the whole implant.

Zirconia is a type of ceramic material with a particle size in the nanometer range.
This enables the creation of highly detailed and smooth structures that also have a
relatively high load bearing capacity. This particular characteristic makes zirconia an
ideal candidate for the manufacturing of crowns, bridges, caps and abutments.

Why Hufschmied?

The HC720DT three-flute radius cutter and the HC910DT torus cutter with their DIPdiamond
coating exert only minimal cutting pressure, even with very narrow profiles
and are perfectly protected against wear caused by the nanoparticles of zirkonia. The
nanocrystalline DIP-diamond coating prevents any settling of zirconia dust on the
surface of the diamond coating - like on an air cushion, it all slides off the surface so
that the tool does not have to be cleared from dust continuously. This contributes
significantly to process reliability and a high service life of over 3,000 metres.
In particular, the three-flute tool geometry ensures that even smaller unstable tabletop
machines achieve high surface qualities, since there is at least one flute engaged
in the 3D-machining at all times.
For older models or for green machining, we recommend the use of two-flute tools,
the HM915-DIP radius cutter or the HM905-DIP torus cutter.                                                                                                                                                                   When dealing with truly slim margin lines below 0.1 mm, we recommend the use of
our polished push-cut 104SHAR tools. By employing a push-type two-flute cutter
geometry, we take advantage of the positive characteristics of zirkonia, i.e. its
compressive stability, to achieve perfect milling results.

Cobalt-chrome - cutting and machining

Cobalt-chrome is used for the low-cost production of bridges, crowns, bars and
telescopes. Co-Cr-Mo or Co-Cr-W alloys are often used here. Both alloys, due to
their widely differing hardness, place different demands on the tool.

Why Hufschmied?

In accordance with our philosophy of the perfect tool for every material, we offer twoand
four-flute milling cutters for the milling of cobalt-chrome. Adapted to the relevant
process control, tools are available with different coatings. The perfect choice of
tools and the use of ICE-TX technology result in highly-polished surfaces for bridges,
crowns, bars and telescopes and prevent material smears on the tool, thus achieving
extremely long service life.

Glass ceramics - cutting and machining

Glass ceramics often consist of feldspat or dilithium disilicate. These minerals place
extreme demands on a tool due to being extremely brittle and very hard. Processing
glass ceramics should therefore only be performed on very stable machinery.
